Gay Fraundorfer works in traditional mediums of oil and watercolour, and also in contemporary mixed media.
She grew up on Stewart Island and her love of that natural environment is often reflected in her work. Her initial training was as an Arts and Crafts specialist teacher at Dunedin Teachers’ College.
Gay has exhibited widely with major exhibitions being mounted in Hamilton and Auckland from 1985 on. She has been an award winner in art competitions and a finalist in ones which include the Norsewear Art Award (2001).
Her paintings are in private collections, and works are also in the Waikato Museum in Hamilton and the prestigious James Wallace Collection in Auckland.
