Joan is a printmaker, painter and mixed media artist working mainly with printed painted and collaged elements. Joan’s recent work is about landscape. The imagery used is inspired by land use and occupation. The territories observed are that of the physical (geological and geographical), the art historical, archeological, the historical, mythical, biblical, cultural and political. These domains are interpreted in a physical and visual form. Calligraphic and gestural marks drawn mainly with a paintbrush, using acrylic paints onto various board supports. The forms are suggested, defined in ways that can be reinterpreted. The underlying theme is essentially an exploration and contemplation of identity and belonging.
